When four Stanford Business School students visited Tanzania, they came across a local vanilla bean field. The farmers gladly shared their vanilla, but they had one question.

How could they break into the North American market with their gourmet vanilla beans? The students had an idea, and Zanzibar Import Co was born as a partnership between the local farmers and the Stanford students.

The students were touched by the generosity they received in Tanzania. As a result, they made a commitment to donate a part of all proceeds from Zanzibar Spice Co to fund the local school. Plus we ensure that the farm workers are paid above market rate for their labor.
